Latin American and Caribbean Feminist Encounters

Since 1981, when for the first time, thousands of women from all parts of the continent met in Bogotá to strengthen the collective struggle of Latin American feminist movements, the “Latin American and Caribbean Feminist Encounters” (EFLAC) have become an important place for forging connections between our diverse struggles.

33 years later, twelve Feminist Encounters have been organized in different countries in our region. This november, from the 22nd to the 25th, the 13th EFLAC will take place in Lima, Peru.

A Call for Feminist Solidarity!

As the organizing committee of the 13th EFLAC, we call for your international feminist solidarity in raising funds for our Feminist Encounter.

Currently, we are faced with a very difficult situation as we avail of a much lower amount of funding than for the last two Feminist Encounters. Nevertheless, we hold that the lack of funding should not endanger this crucial Feminist Encounter taking place in a decisive moment in Latin American politics. This is why we consider it of vital importance to rethink our practices, seeing this situation as a challenge and an opportunity to work in a self-funded manner.

Self-Funding has been a form of collective organizing that has guaranteed our autonomy as diverse feminist movement. Many feminist collectives and organizations have converted self-funding into a central dimension of our politics, be it through fundraising activities or be it through our – often invisible – work as activists and as women in our daily life.

This is why we, from the multiple commissions that together form the organizing committee of the Feminist Encounter, seek to incorporate and promote different ways of self-funding. We are organizing a network for solidary accomodation during the Feminist Encounter as well as fundraising fairs and campaigns. As the Feminist Encounter is a regional and open event for feminists from Latin America and beyond, we invite you to collaborate with this fundraising campaign in a spirit of solidarity.

The money raised will be used to cover the accomodation, alimentation, and transportation of women from Peruvian grassroots-organizations with restricted access to economic resources.

Please collaborate with the 13th Feminist Encounter, every contribution helps! In collaborating, you will contribute to the defense of the rights of women and the strengthening of the diverse feminist movements of Our America!
